Is Sky Q available to my residents?
Yes, there are three ways in which a resident might get Sky Q; via a block that has already had it's communal system enhanced for Q, via a Plug-In Adapter or via a mini dish.
I want the whole of my building to be Sky Q ready, can I have a DSCR switch installed instead of the Plug-In Adapter?
Yes, of course. The DSCR switch remains a product for enabling a block to be Sky Q ready and may make sense for any Managing Agents who want to give the whole block access to Sky Q, however there may be cost attached in doing this. DSCR switches will also continue to support customers already on Sky+.
Some of my residents want to sign up to Sky and some want Virgin, will the Plug-In Adapter mean that this is now possible?
Yes – for residents wishing to upgrade/subscribe to Sky Q. The Plug-In Adapter does not provide the Virgin TV service. If the block is already wired for the Virgin service, then there is no reason the resident could not choose between the two.
Will I need a survey before the Plug-In Adapter can be installed?
No, there is no need for a survey before a Plug-In Adapter can be installed, which reduces the set-up time considerably for the resident.
How long will the engineer need to be in the block to install the adapter?
The install will be part of the resident’s set top box install and not take much longer than a standard customer installation. The engineer will need access to the resident’s element of the communal system on the day but the installation will not affect the system or any other residents.
If we can give our residents access to Sky Q with the Plug-In Adapter, does this mean that the DSCR switch is redundant?
No, not at all, if a DSCR system is in place already then we would connect customers to the switch. The new Plug-In Adapter is a quicker and easier way for individual residents in blocks of flats, where there is no DSCR switch fitted, to get access to Sky Q.
I know from other Managing Agents that are getting the Sky Q upgrade is time consuming, how can I be reassured that this won’t be the case with the Plug-In Adapter?
We have introduced the new Plug-In Adapter to make it quicker and simpler to get Sky Q installed. There is no re-configuring of the existing communal TV system or re-balancing of the system signal levels and minimal involvement from the Managing Agent if access is required, so the process should be smooth, seamless and much quicker.
You say that there is nothing for me to do if a customer wants Sky Q, but won’t I need to authorise access to the site or give my permission? I don’t want to be contacted every time a resident contacts Sky to get Sky Q.
In most cases we gain access today to the residents element of the system to carry out a Sky installation for a customer, so we don’t see that this will become an issue for you unless you have specified that you require a contact every time.
How much does the Plug-In Adapter cost to replace?
The ownership and warranty of the Plug-In Adapter will sit with Sky.
Who do I contact about getting Sky’s Plug-In Adapter?
Resident calls Sky as per the normal sales process, the resident need not know about or ask specifically for the adapter, the system will intuitively know if they are eligible to get Sky Q through an adapter.
