BSkyB has appointed Brendan Hegarty as its new head of Sky Communal TV Solutions. The department is responsible for the installation of digital communal TV systems into blocks of flats and apartments and is one of the highest growth areas of the business.

Sky has experienced a significant uplift in demand for its communal TV solutions over the past couple of years during the switchover of the TV signal from analogue to digital in the UK.  Going forward the emphasis will be on the superior quality of the systems and the service provided by Sky, in addition to its experience of helping landlords, managing agents and developers meet the needs of residents.

Brendan Hegarty previously worked in the mobile phone industry, most recently as a senior member of the sales and retail teams at Orange.  He says: "My 10 years in telecoms have definitely been great preparation. The mobile sector and Sky both share subscription based business models, with similar challenges and targets. BSkyB is a fantastic company that I have followed closely for many years, and I'm delighted to be involved at this exciting time."

The team at Sky Communal TV Solutions have established a well-deserved reputation in the industry for high quality installations - be it providing upgrades or replacements to existing systems, working on single blocks or entire property portfolios, or helping developers on the complete installation for brand new builds. Sky offers two main types of communal TV system, the platform neutral Integrated Reception System (IRS) and the competitively priced Shared Dish system, each of which come with a range of leasing options and subsidies respectively.

One of Brendan's main priorities across the private and social sectors, is to help property professionals liaise with residents at every level. He says: "We believe it's important to speak to residents at the outset, consult with them directly to identify what their needs are, explain the options available and keep them informed of progress throughout the installation process. "

He continues: "Members of our team have attended around 1,500 meetings with private landlords, managing agents and residents committee members over the last two years and this is something we think is very important to develop further. We realise that liaising with residents can be a headache for some landlords and property managers but know from experience that it is a vital part of a successful installation, so this is where we can help."
