Sky has formed a partnership with Fibre Options to offer premium TV services to residents of the new Greenwich Peninsula development in London, it was announced today.

The landmark development by Knight Dragon sits opposite Canary Wharf on the banks of the Thames and flanks the 02 Dome. Currently the largest development of its kind in the UK, it comprises of five distinctive residential districts and is set to provide London with 15,720 new homes and 12,000 new jobs. The Peninsula will be home to a diverse community for 28,000 people living in an area twice the size of Soho wrapped by 1.6 miles of public river frontage.  Properties vary from studio flats to 3 bedroom apartments to luxurious penthouses.

All homes in the development are to be fitted with Fibre to the Home (FTTH) technology delivering speeds up to 1Gbps.  As part of the partnership between Fibre Options and Sky, residents who sign up to the purefibre high-speed (1Gbps or 100Mbps) broadband packages from Fibre Options will also be offered the opportunity to access Sky’s full range of premium TV services, including Sky+HD, and will receive a basic Sky TV package free for the first 12 months.

The scheme will also include two schools, independent shops, bars and restaurants and public squares and parkland, all serviced by the Jubliee Line. There will be a 5km running track weaving through the different neighbourhoods and along the river on the Peninsula, a floating performance space,The Jetty, the largest golf driving range in London and a new film studio for London.

Mark Trojacek, Managing Director of Fibre Options comments:

“For a project of this scale and ambition, it’s essential that properties are provided with access to the latest technology and prepared for future developments. Delivering Gigabit speeds today, fibre networks are the only solution to deliver the internet of the future and support the latest TV from Sky and our broadband services, as well as those yet to be introduced.  By working alongside Sky, we are able to offer residents up-to-the-minute TV technology, in most cases from the day they move in.”

Eddie Elcomb, Head of Infrastructure, Knight Dragon Development Ltd. added:

“From the outset it has been Knight Dragon’s vision to provide the residents of Greenwich Peninsula the opportunity to benefit from the very best Internet experience. A high quality digital connection is essential for today’s lifestyle, allowing residents of the Peninsula the opportunity to work from home, resulting in an enhanced work/life balance and environmental benefits.”

According to Chris Collinson, Sky Sales & Marketing Director, by partnering to deliver TV via fibre cables directly into homes, the full range of Sky services can be provided without the need for individual satellite dishes:

“A fibre network connection differentiates new property developments and gives the people living in the flats access to quality services.  Alongside Fibre Options, we can provide first class TV services via a single central satellite dish and terrestrial aerial, which serve the entire block.

“We’re delighted to be involved in the creation of an exciting new district for London, and are confident our new relationship with Fibre Options will continue to provide quality solutions for future homes.”
